BLM Film Discussion: 13TH

June 7, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join An-Nas for a virtual discussion on institutionalized racism, current events, and the 2016 Netflix original documentary 13TH. As humanists from Muslim communities, we hope to educate ourselves and others on Black Lives Matter and acts of solidarity. This event is open to An-Nas members and friends of An-Nas.

About 13TH: Filmmaker Ava DuVernay explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. In this thought-provoking documentary, scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom.

Our virtual meeting will be limited to a discussion. Please watch the documentary before the meeting begins at 2pm Eastern Time. The film is available for free on YouTube and can also be viewed on Netflix. You can watch the trailer here.

This documentary is rated 18+ due to violence.

How to attend: RSVP by visiting our Facebook event or email Noura to reserve a spot. We will send out a meeting link privately to ensure the virtual meeting remains a safe space for participants.
